Dr Loke received his primary medical degree from the University of Melbourne, a specialist qualification in internal medicine from the UK Royal College of Physicians, and a sub-specialist qualification in endocrinology from the Singapore Academy of Medicine. He was previously the chief endocrinologist at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in Asia, and was also a senior consultant Physician and Endocrinologist working with Serdang Hospital, a teaching hospital for University Putra Malaysia where he was an Associate Professor. He is also active in research and was previously the Deputy Director of the Malaysian National Institute of Aging Research. His research interests include the epidemiology of diabetes mellitus, parathyroid disorders, population gerontology, and computer vision software. He has numerous publications in high-impact journals and is a reviewer for several well-known academic publications. He has also been an invited speaker to international conferences and is regularly called to comment on various issues for the national media in his home country. Dr Loke has co-authored several books, holds four patents for inventions, and has several software copyrights to his name. His clinical interests are in diabetes and thyroid disorders and has extensive experience in managing chronic disease in older people. He loves New Zealand for its sunshine and beaches.
